1. Historic Fort Knox Marker

Inscription. These stone structures mark the entrance to the first location of the Armored Force Replacement Training Center formed as part of the Armored Force on 1 October 1940. The initial cadre, 60 officers and 1000 noncommissioned officers drawn from the newly activated First and Second Armored Divisions, arrived in January 1941 and prepared to receive the first trainees in February 1941.

Formed into companies of 220 men each, the new soldiers learned the basic fundamentals of soldiering, followed by the military skills of tank driving, gunnery, reconnaissance and tactics. overcoming many obstacles, the newly organized armored force and training center proved itself in the 150.000 soldiers graduated during the years 1941-1945.

Although redesignated and modernized to meet an ever changing mission, the original training center concept is present today and training armor soldiers.
