1. Cyclone Store Marker

Inscription. In 1885 Albert Miller opened a stock owned General Store on this site named "Cyclone", being unique in name. James "Buddy" Gentry, who worked there as a youth, bought the store from Miller in 1906. In 1913 Clarence Porter and Hubert Wigginton acquired the business. Clarence and an employee were both killed in a one vehicle accident in 1939, transferring management to son, William Franklin Porter. The building nearly burned in 1940 when Maccabee Hall, located across Main Street, caught fire. There were many additions including apartments upstairs. The store moved to a new building nearby and closed in 2013, after being in business for 127 years.
