1. Samuel Thomas Rowe Marker

Inscription. Born in Truro, England, March 9, 1819. Came to New York (1838), then to Toronto (1840) and to Grey County (1844). In 1851 he came from Walkerton by raft down the Saugeen River arriving in Paisley a few weeks after his friend Simon Orchard. He built a cabin near the site of the present Town Hall, He was Paisley’s second settler and the founder of Rowes Tavern, Paisley's first hotel. He died June 12, 1904
