The Airmen's Memorial in Den Helder was erected in memory of two British airmen who crashed here on July 18, 1943. They were members of the Royal Air Force North Coates Strike Wing.(Submitted on August 6, 2026.)
The names of the fallen crew members are Pilot Sergeant Ernest F.V. Kidd and Navigator Sergeant Harrold C. Stevenson.
On July 18, 1943, five British aircraft attacked several German naval vessels over the Den Helder harbor area. A British Beaufighter (registration JL 575) with a two-man crew was hitby German anti-aircraft fire (FLAK) and crashed. The airmen were 22 and 24 years old; they were buried at the British War Cemetery in Bergen op Zoom.Photographed by Andrew Ruppenstein, June 2, 20262. E.F.V. Kidd and H.G. Following a renovation, the monument was unveiled again on November 15, 2001, by Mr. Butler (Defense Attachι at the British Embassy) and Mayor Staatsen.
