1. Henry Flagler Marker
A founding partner in Standard Oil, Henry Flagler was already one of the world's richest men when he began work on the Hotel Ponce de Leon. But perhaps his greatest legacy was still to come.
The elegant Hotel Ponce turned sleepy St. Augustine into a prime vacation destination and proved that Florida was ripe for development. With characteristic tenacity, equanimity, and vision, Flagler almost single-handedly built the hospitality industry in east Florida, earning the well-deserved moniker, "Father of Florida Tourism."
Flagler's vision and accomplishments remind us that anything is possible. Flagler College embodies this spirit today, inspiring a new generation of forward-thinkers, artists, and visionaries.
