1. Brumleve Building Marker

Inscription. Although the property records date back to 1850, the current building standing at this site was constructed in 1888 by Frank Brumleve. The street- level front, made of cast iron, was manufactured by Christopher and Simpson of St. Louis, Missouri. Brumleve operated a millinery store here, serving Red Bud's growing population. In 1889, Mrs. J.F.W. Holtman opened Holtman's Millinery Store in the same location. She was followed by Clara Neuhaus, who owned and operated Neuhaus Millinery and Ladies Wear. Neuhaus became one of Red Bud's most respected business and community leaders.

Another early business at this address was Burgdorf's Meat Market, established in 1860 by Charles Burgdorf. In addition to running the market, Burgdorf shipped livestock throughout the region. The building features two raised entrances, which likely allowed it to house multiple businesses. The elevated doorways made it easier for wagons to back in for loading and unloading goods.

mowers, and made the second floor his family's residence. Bob Birke later acquired the building. In 2016, after a period of vacancy. Kalin and Kathy Liefer purchased the building and undertook the complete restoration of the historic building.

Today, the building is home to Lieferbräu Brewery, a local business specializing in traditional German-style beers. The space has come full circle, once again as a hub of activity in downtown Red Bud.
