From the National Register Nomination prepared by Christy Davis, 5/19/2009:
Constructed in 1916 and typical of bank architecture in the early Twentieth Century, the building is a two-story Classical Revival structure with a white glazed terra-cotta facade. White marble panels form a tall base around the building. Ionic columns frame thecenter bay. The building is capped by a projecting cornice with dentils. BANK is inscribed on the frieze beneath the cornice. A stepped parapet, of glazed brick (terra cotta) extends above the cornice. The center bay is essentially a glass curtain wall of dark tinted glass framing a paneled bank sign. The building is located on a corner with the north facade also fronting the street. Massive pilasters frame bays on the side facade and the cornice and parapet match the building front. The east bay of the north facade is a second storefront with a recessed center bay with an ornate terracotta surround. A single door is located on the east end with an ornate entablature with scroll brackets. The marker is mounted above eye level near the north (left) edge of the west facade.Although the majority of this block had been occupied by dwellings in the early 1880s, their slow replacement had begun by 1884, when there were two two-story commercial structures on the block. A two-story house at this location was vacant by 1887. What appears to be the same building provided for a confectionary in the 1890s, a millinery in 1905, and a tailor in 1911. The
building was removed for the construction of the Kansas State Bank, the existing building, in 1916. The Kansas State Bank was chartered in 1907. In 1933, the Kansas State Bank merged with the State Bank of Dodge City (founded 1893), to form the Fidelity State Bank.Photographed by Cosmos Mariner, August 18, 20223. 1933 We form Fidelity State Bank by combining our conservative banking tradition with the rich history of State Bank of Dodge City, originally founded by the first merchant of Dodge City, George M. Hoover.
1977 We change our name to Fidelity State Bank and Trust Company to reflect the growing importance of our trust services.
