1. Médiathèque Jean Falala / Jean Falala Multimedia Library Marker
Livrée en 2002 par l’architecte Jean-Paul Viguier, la médiathèque porte le nom de Jean Falala, maire de Reims à l’époque du concours (1997). Résolument contemporain, le bâtiment prolonge toutefois le gabarit et la façade de l’ancien hôtel de police (Jean Walter architecte, 1920).
Par ailleurs, les reflets en miroir de la cathédrale sur la paroi extérieure offrent un dialogue subtil avec le cadre urbain. Le métal et le verre s’affirment avec puissance sur un socle en pierre de Courville. Les grandes baies s’attachent à une structure nervurée métallique. Elle reprend la trame des planchers en suspension qui offrent de vastes plateaux libres (7 000 m²).
Depuis l’intérieur, la perspective sur la cathédrale crée un moment inoubliable pour le lecteur.
Équipement central du réseau de lecture publique rémois, la médiathèque propose près de 160 000 documents sur tous supports (livres, disques, vidéos) en consultation et en prêt.

What’s more, the cathedral’s reflection on the exterior glass walls proffers a subtle dialogue with the urban environment. Metal and glass stand strong on a Courville stone plinth. The large bays are tethered to a veined metal structure which emphasizes the floors and the vast unencumbered spaces (7,000 m²).
From the interior, the view of the cathedral creates an unforgettable experience for the reader.
This library is at the heart of the Reims public library network and holds almost 160,000 different items in a variety of materials (books, discs, videos) for both reference and loan.

Zudem entsteht durch die sich auf der Fassade spiegelnde Kathedrale ein subtiler Dialog mit der umgebenden Stadtkulisse. Metall und Glas thronen imposant auf einem Sockel aus Steinen aus Courville. Die großen Glasfenster werden von Metallrippen gehalten, die das Muster der Etagen und die freien Flächen von insg. 7 000 m² unterstreichen.
Die Sicht von innen auf die Kathedrale bietet dem Leser einen unvergesslichen Moment.
Die Mediathek ist das Herzstück des öffentlichen Lesangebots der Stadt Reims und stellt knapp 160.000 Dokumente auf diversen Trägern (Bücher, CDs, Videos) zur Einsicht und zum Verleih zur Verfügung.
