Her Tiendplein verwijst naar het feit dat aan Hugo van Assendelft, abt van Egmond van 1353 tot 1366, door Claese de Vriese alle handvesten, brieven en rechten overgedragen waren, die ze op de tienden van Scoenreloo (Schoonderloo) hadden. Omstreeks 1358 had Aelwijn Aerntsz. van Scoenreloe de korentiende (een tiende is een vorm van winstbelasting, waarbij men een 10de deel van de oogst dient te betalen). 'in het Middellant in het ambacht van Scoenreloo' van de abdij van Egmond in leen.

(English translation:)
The name Tiendplein (“Tithe Square”) refers to the fact that Claese de Vriese transferred all charters, documents, and rights concerning the tithes of Scoenreloo (Schoonderloo) to Hugo van Assendelft, Abbot of Egmond from 1353 to 1366. Around 1358, Aelwijn Aerntsz. van Scoenreloe held the grain tithe — pa tithe being a form of tax on produce requiring the payment of one-tenth of the harvest—"in the Middellant in the ambacht [administrative district] of Scoenreloo" in fief from the Abbey of Egmond.
