1. Netherlands Liberation Bell Marker

Inscription. During the occupation of the Netherlands, the Nazis confiscated most of the church bells to melt down for ammunition. When the country was liberated by allied forces, the bells that had been spared rang out the joyous celebration that the war had ended and proclaimed that they, like the Dutch people themselves, had survived.

The bells were a symbol of courage and determination of the Dutch people to resist tyranny and oppression, and to live once again in freedom.

This monument is a donation by the Dutch Canadian Society of London and District in gratitude.
