1. Coal Mine Cars Marker

Inscription.
These coal mine cars were used in the Jennison/Wix Mine from 1941 until it closed in 1959. This mine was the largest mine in the Girard Coal Field. The twelve foot thick coal vein produced a low quality lignite coal, which was sold for domestic use in communities from Fairview to Fort Peck. Peak production was about 100 tons per day. The mine was first opened in 1915 by the McMillan family.

These cars were donated by Virginia Jennison Hilton and restored by the Culbertson Lions Club.
