1. Krueger Marker
Walter Krueger (1881–1967) occupied these quarters 1939–41 as a major general commanding the Second Division. A great tactician of the U.S. Army, authority on strategy and American history, he rose through the ranks from private to general in 47 years of devoted service. Following service in three wars, he was chosen to command the Sixth Army in World War II. A “soldier’s soldier,” he is acknowledged as the architect of the modern U.S. Army.
