1. 1016 Madison Avenue Marker

Inscription. The home, now a century old at 1016 Madison Avenue boasts a rich history that dates back to its construction in 1903 during the opulent Gilded Age. Designed by the renowned architects York & Sawyer, it was modeled after a grand French palace. It features intricate carvings, ornate moldings, and soaring ceilings. It is the only pristine Beaux Arts Mansion left on Madison Avenue maintaining its original use.

The mansion has housed many influential people over the years, including a Philadelphia art collector, a wealthy banker and stockbroker, and an expert in period interiors and furniture. Perls Galleries occupied the mansion when the famous sculptor Alexander Calder designed the sidewalk in front. Today, Arader Galleries, the world’s leading dealer in the works of John James Audubon, natural history watercolors, rare books and historically significant maps maintains high standards of excellence.
