This stone culvert under construction in the Falls Mill area of old Route 19 allowed Falls Creek to pass under the road a link in transporting goods produced here.
By the 1830's a prosperous saltworks was in operation, using wells dug along the Little Kanawha River. Salt was of major importance to rural communities because of its use in tanning and food preservation. In addition, Bulltown salt was carried to larger towns where it was traded or sold.
In about 1850 a tannery was built. The process by which leather is tanned requires an abundance of salt and water, and both were readily available here in Bulltown.
