1. Herbert Lewis (Hub) Hill Marker
Herbert Lewis (Hub) Hill, 9-21-1915 to 9-29-1989, was a hometown boy, born and raised in Corsicana. He graduated CHS (played baritone horn in band) then graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor in 1937 and became the 2nd band director of Corsicana High School. The first was Joel Trimble. Hub served at CHS from 1937-1941 & 1946-1977, approximately 35 years total. The break in the consecutive years at CHS was when he served in the military from 1941-1946. That makes 40 years of service as even there he directed military bands.
Hub likely taught and directed well over 5,000 students in his career and is credited with writing the words and music to the CHS fight song Tigers Fight, and likely assisted Dr. Leslie Kelton who wrote the CHS school song All Hail Corsicana. The street location where this statue stands is the very spot Hub would watch the CHS bands march during parades. Hub was a great and fine man, tough too, but he wanted us to be the best we could be. He was loved and respected by most all who were members of his bands. Most feel they Wear a Badge of Honor having been taught, directed and encouraged by him. Hub Hill is absolutely deserving of this honor.
