David Garrick 1717-1779
David Garrick was the most celebrated actor of his day and famous for Shakespearian roles, particularly noted for his performances as Richard I. As a close friend of Samuel Johnson, they travelled to London together where Garrick became the manager of the Drury Lane Theatre. He introduced many changes and reforms that are still in place in theatres today, such as keeping the audience off the stage.
Lichfield Garrick Theatre
The Lichfield Garrick is a modern, purpose built theatre that first opened in 2003. Named after David Garrick, it plays host to the best and widest range of musical theatre, drama, comedy, music and family entertainment in the city. In 2013 the

The Lichfield Garrick hosts over 400 performances each year in its two theatre spaces, welcoming a capacity of 550 in the main theatre and 150 in the studio. In 2019 Lichfield Garrick expanded its cultural offering and now houses an in house cinema.
The Hub at St Mary's
The Hub at St Mary's, located in the Market Square, is a multi-use arts and heritage venue on the first floor of the Grade II listed building.
St Mary's has been sympathetically renovated, retaining stunning architecture and stained glass, the venue re-opened in 2019 offering an arts programme including live music, plays, talks and family shows. The building also houses Lichfield Library and Visitor Information Centre on the ground floor, with a coffee shop, gallery and exhibition space on the first floor.
