1. A Proud Tradition Marker
Westerville's devotion to our military service personnel dates to our very roots - our original settlers were veterans of the American Revolutionary War. The service and sacrifice of hundreds of our veterans dating back to the Civil and Spanish American wars are honored annually in our cemeteries.
Our community has always supported our military during times of conflict. During WWII, Uptown storefronts displayed framed photographs of deployed soldiers, the Westerville Creamery Company produced 150 million cans of evaporated milk for U.S. troops, and Kilgore Manufacturing, which had previously provided distress signal flares for ships and planes, began manufacturing munitions. Since 2009, Westerville has supported the mission of Honor Flight enabling senior veterans to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the nation's memorials.
Westerville is proud of our service men and women, and their families. This memorial park will serve as a place for our community to continue to honor our veterans and active military with special events throughout the year.
