Inscription.
Brendan Byrne (1924 — 2018) grew up on Prospect Place, attended kindergarten and first grade at St. John's School in Orange; later attended Washington Street Elementary and Gaston Street School, and in 1942 graduated from West Orange High School. Earned Distinguished Flying Medal in WWII serving with 414th Bomb Squadron of the 15th Air Force. Went onto serve as Essex County prosecutor, president of the NJ Board of Public Utilities, Superior Court judge, and two terms as New Jersey's 47th governor from 1974 to 1982. Always with sensibilitity and his Irish sense-of-humor.
