1. Bronaugh Apartments Marker

Inscription. Constructed in 1905, year of the Lewis and Clark Exposition, the Bronaugh Apartments are one of the oldest remaining apartment houses in Portland. James Issac Marshall, a neighbor and personal friend of the Bronaugh family, built the apartments for Araminta Payne Bronaugh, wife of Judge Earl Clapp Bronaugh.

Note the semi-circular arched openings, the bracketed and broad overhanging eaves, the decorative egg and dart moulding, and the ornamented frieze and bay window panels. All these architectural details are original and contribute to the building’s unique eclecticism.

2. Bronaugh Apartments Marker
The marker is located at the entrance to the apartment complex.
Earl Clapp Bronaugh. 1905 was the year of Portland's Lewis and Clark World's Fair which attracted visitors from all over the nation. Portland experienced a tremendous economic boom during the first decade of the twentieth century and hundreds came and settled permanently in the city...According to a recent owner, the apartments, known as the Hyland, Olive and Ellsworth, were a "show case" in their day.
