1. Architectural Features Summerside Heritage District: Column Marker
Inscription. Summerside is fortunate to have many historic buildings in its downtown neighbourhood as living testament to the tastes and skills of previous residents. In 2003 a heritage district was designated by the City under its Heritage Conservation Bylaw and is shown on the map. Within that radius of streets lies an abundance of buildings with different styles of design. This series of panels focuses on some of the architectural details from the mid 19th to early 20th century that you will see as you stroll around the area.

A Column is a vertical weight-bearing support with a base, a round or square shaft, and a connecting piece called a capital on top of the shaft. Columns can be plain or carved and are scaled in size to the building. There are several examples of columns on homes in the heritage district.

Erected by City of Summerside.
