1. Architectural Features Summerside Heritage District Verandah Marker
Inscription. Summerside is fortunate to have many historic buildings in its downtown neighbourhood as living testament to the tastes and skills of previous residents. In 2003 a heritage district was designated by the City under its Heritage Conservation Bylaw and is shown on the map. Within that radius of streets lies an abundance of buildings with different styles of design. This series of panels focuses on some of the architectural details from the mid 19th to early 20th century that you will see as you stroll around the area.

A Verandah, a common feature on many older Summerside homes, is an open porch with a roof and railings. It usually extends across the front of a building, sometimes wrapping around to the side, or being located only on the side. Some former verandahs have been enclosed with walls, windows and a door to create an interior space.

Erected by City of Summerside.
