1. The Honourable J. Angus MacLean Marker
Inscription. On the night of 8th June, 1942, Angus MacLean was piloting his Halifax bomber towards the Krupp armaments factory in the heart of Nazi Germany. His plane was hit by both flak and night fighters, and Angus and his crew were forced to bail out over Holland. For the next 72 days, with the help of many brave members of the Underground, Angus made his way through Holland, Belgium, France and Spain to freedom in Gibraltar.

He loved nature and marveled at both the vast web of life and the ability of the tiny hummingbird to find its way home to the feeder which hung outside his dining room window.

Angus was an independent thinker with a powerful memory where he stored up political stories, poetry and long skeins of genealogical lore. He traced his MacLean ancestry back to the Island of Raasay, a small Hebridean island off the Isle of Skye, and took a keen interest in his Scottish heritage. Angus, a fourth-generation Canadian of Scottish descent on both his father's and his mother's sides, was a founding member of Clan Maclean Atlantic and believed strongly in the value of remembering one's roots.
Angus était un penseur libre doté d'une mémoire prodigieuse où il emmagasinait des anecdotes politiques, des poèmes et de longues séqueaces généalogiques. Il retraça les liens ancestraux des MacLean jusqu'à l'ile de Raasay. un ilot des Hebrides au large de l'ile de Skye, et s'intéressait à son patrimoine écossais. Canadien d'origine écossaise de quatrième génération par son père comme par sa mère, Angus fut membre fondateur du Clan Maclean Atlantic et croyait fermement à la valeur de connaitre ses racines.
On February 15, 2000, Angus MacLean was felled by a stroke a few feet from where he was born in the family home in Lewes. He died later that night. He was eighty-five.
