John Mirabelli begins his 14th season in charge of the club's Scouting Operations Department. He served as Assistant General Manager from 2002-10 after joining the organization in 2000 as the Indians [sic] Director of Scouting.

Mirabelli, 52, has taken on an expanded role in the procurement of amateur and professional talent, both in the United States and abroad. John directly oversees and manages the scouting and acquisition efforts in the domestic and international markets for the club. The club continues to operate heavily in Latin America and the Pacific Rim as evidenced in the recent amateur signings of Dorsyss Paulino (Dominican), Chiang Shao-Ching (Taiwan), Chen Chang Lee (Taiwan), Chun Chen (Taiwan) and Toru Murata (Japan). Additionally, he assists General Manager Chris Antonetti in all player acquisitions relative to the 40-man roster and Minor League system.

He continues to oversee and assist Brad Grant in the first-year player draft, which has resulted in a number of highly regarded classes (named best MLB draft in 2010 by Baseball America). The Pittsburgh, PA native spent the 1998-99 seasons as the National

Crosschecker in the Detroit Tigers scouting department. Prior to his stint as crosschecker he spent the 1997 season as the South East Supervisor for the Tigers and before that was an area scout with Detroit from 1990-96. Detroit's 1997 and '98 first round picks (RHP Matt Anderson & RHP Jeff Weaver) each made it to the big leagues during their first professional seasons and in 1997 he signed the Tigers' 6th round pick, RHP Brian Moehler. He was named Detroit's Scout of the Year in 1996 and in 1997 the Tigers were named Organization of the Year by Baseball America. John played his collegiate ball at North Carolina State University and played professionally in Italy for two seasons in 1983-84 before returning to his alma mater, spending six seasons from 1985-90 as the Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator with the Wolfpack before becoming an area scout with the Tigers after the 1990 draft. While at North Carolina State, John received a bachelor's in business management.

He and his wife, Mirella, reside in Westlake and have two children named Tina (22) and Tommy (19). Tommy is a freshman at the University of Kansas after being selected
