1. St. Mary Church Marker

Inscription.
“The little white church at the end of the lane…” That’s how St. Mary was described when it was given to the Heritage Guild in 1999 by Reverend George Anderson and his wife Hazel. At the time the building was in need of restoration. The Heritage Guild applied for and received a grant from the Allen Community Development Corporation to restore the building. In September of 2002, the re-dedication was held to a full house. Reverend Anderson preached his final sermon and spoke of “sowing seeds.” An old-fashioned picnic followed on the grounds. St. Mary has been restored to what we imagined it once looked like—exposed green ceiling boards, bead-board wainscoting and simple plastered walls. The wooden floor is original and still in the same diagonal pattern. The Heritage Guild added simple gothic windows to the rear wall to flood the sanctuary with sunlight. Original features of the church are the pulpit and the attendance roster as well as the bell in the steeple—It is still rung!
