Following the homecoming celebration and tearful reunions, the transitioning to civilian life begins for both the service member and the family. At home, routines and responsibilities are renegotiated and family members - especially young children - get reacquainted. Newly acquired training, skills and collaborative approaches are valuable in the workplace as service members return to former places of employment or search for a new position where these assets might be utilized. Civilian life is a different pace with its own rhythms. The military provides a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) for each service member to help achieve a successful reintegration.
For service members with life changing injuries or for those that have survived a traumatic experience and suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD), the long journey to recovery continues. For those in need of help and support, many resources are
