1. St. Thomas Aquinas, 2020 Marker
A philosopher and theologian, St. Thomas Aquinas is considered to be one of the most influential thinkers of medieval scholasticism. Canonized in 1323 and named a Doctor of the Church in 1567, he is the patron saint of students and our University. His left hand holds a quill used to write pages of the Summa Theologiae that he embraces in his right. These pages ascend to the heavens transforming into a dove. At the base of the sculpture are a bust of Aristotle and fragments of Greek Ionic columns, giving visual representation to the classical philosophical background of his theology.
