Das Haus Zimmerstraße 14/15 ist steingemauerter Zeitzeuge des alten und nun wieder verbundenen Berlins. Als Fabrikations- und Geschäftshaus im Jahre 1910 erbaut, vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg als „Narag-Haus“ bekannt geworden, dient es seit 1953 der IDEAL Versicherungsgruppe als eines der Hauptverwaltungsgebäude.

Bei der Rekonstruktion der Hausfassade im Herbst 2002 beließ man es nicht bei einer einfachen Sanierung:

In einem Teilbereich des Gebäudes wird hinter der vorgehängten Glasfassade deutlich, wie sehr die Stadt Berlin in den Kriegs- und Nachkriegsjahren gelitten hat. Für kommende Generationen bleibt somit ein Teil überwundener Vergangenheit zur Mahnung sichtbar erhalten.

The building Zimmerstrasse 14/15 is a stone laid contemporary witness of the old city of Berlin, finally reunited again. It was built in 1910 as an industrial fabrication and office building. Before World War II it became known as the “NARAG House” and since 1953 it has been used by the IDEAL Insurance Group as one of their head office buildings.

When the building facade was reconstructed in the fall of 2002, particular importance was also attached to demonstrating how severely the city of Berlin had been affected during the war and post-war years; this has been realised by leaving one part of the old facade behind a glass curtain wall.

Thus, the future generations will always be able to see part of the overcome past as a constant reminder.
