1. Saint Mary's Complex Marker
Inscription. St. Mary's Roman Catholic Parish established 1838, grew rapidly with Irish immigration. Gothic style church known as "the Cathedral of the west" built 1874-1879. Stained class windows 1915 by John Hardman & Co. of Birmingham, England. St. Mary's Academy built 1889, enlarged 1911. Rectory built 1891. Convent built 1903 for sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. All buildings are of native stone.
