1. Elternhaus Otto Herrmann / Otto Herrmann’s Childhood Home Marker

In diesem Haus hat der Maler und Grafiker Otto Herrmann (1899–1995) seine Kinder- und Jugendzeit verbracht. Nach der Volksschule absolvierte er ab 1914 eine Chemigraphen-Lehre. Als Freiwilliger zog er 1917 in den Ersten Weltkrieg, aus dem er als entschiedener Kriegsgegner zurückkehrte. Von 1920 bis 1928 studierte er an der Kunstakademie Stuttgart und unternahm Studienreisen nach München, Paris und Italien. Seine berufliche Laufbahn begann er als Zeichner bei namhaften Satire-Zeitschriften wie „Uhlenspiegel“ und „Simplicissimus“. Otto Herrmann zählt heute zu den Vertretern des Expressiven Realismus. Sein Nachlass wird von der Otto & Maria Herrmann Stiftung betreut.

(English Translation)
The painter and graphic artist Otto Herrmann (1899–1995) spent his childhood and youth in this house. After elementary school, he began an apprenticeship as a photoengraver in 1914. He volunteered for service in the First World War in 1917 but returned as a firm opponent of war. From 1920 to 1928, he studied at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts and made study trips to Munich, Paris and Italy. He began his professional career as an illustrator for well-known satirical magazines such as Uhlenspiegel and Simplicissimus. Otto Herrmann is now regarded as a representative of Expressive Realism. His artistic estate is administered by the Otto & Maria Herrmann Foundation.
