Unternehmer Karl Oelschläger, der Großvater des weltberühmten Kinderbuchautors Eric Carle, hat dieses Haus im Jahre 1935 erworben. Eric Carle, 1929 in Syracuse/USA geboren, wohnte hier nach Rückkehr aus den USA mit seinen Eltern von 1935 bis 1952. Er besuchte in Feuerbach die Brühl-Grundschule und die Oberschule. Danach studierte er Grafik an der Stuttgarter Akademie der Künste. Als 23-Jähriger kehrte er wieder in die USA zurück, wo er sich in verschiedenen Unternehmen als Designer weiterentwickelte. Mit 30 Jahren begann er seine Karriere als erfolgreicher Kinderbuchautor; für sein künstlerisches Schaffen erhielt er 2001 das Bundesverdienstkreuz. Seit 2002 wohnt er im Wechsel in North Carolina und in Florida.

(English Translation)
Businessman Karl Oelschläger, the grandfather of world-famous children’s author Eric Carle, purchased this house in 1935. Eric Carle was born in Syracuse, USA, in 1929 and lived here with his parents from 1935 to 1952 after the family returned from the United States. He attended Brühl Elementary School and secondary school in Feuerbach. He then studied graphic design at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts. At age 23, he returned to the United States, where he developed his skills as a designer while working for several companies. At age 30, he began his successful career as a children’s author. In 2001, he received the Federal Cross of Merit for his artistic work. Beginning in 2002, he divided his time between North Carolina and Florida.
