1. Bärenstäffele / Bear Steps Marker

Am Fuße dieser Staffel stand einst das für die Gemeinde wichtige Badhaus, in dem der hochgeachtete Bader, der „Arzt der kleinen Leute“, als Heilgehilfe, Wundarzt, Zahnarzt, auch Barbier und Chirurgus Dienste leistete. Die zu dem Badhaus hinunter führende Staffel hieß gemäß Darstellung des Pfarrers Richard Kallee noch bis Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts „Bäderstaffel“. Im Volksmund wurde sie jedoch „Bärenstäffele“ genannt, da neben der Staffel früher ein Zuchteber, schwäbisch: Ber oder Bär, gehalten worden war. Als im Jahre 1986 die offizielle Benennung festgelegt wurde, entschieden sich die zuständigen Gremien daher nicht für die historische, sondern für die in der Feuerbacher Bevölkerung verfestigte Bezeichnung „Bärenstäffele“.

An important public bathhouse once stood at the foot of these steps. Its highly respected bath attendant, known as the “doctor of the common people,” also served as a medical assistant, wound doctor, dentist, barber, and surgeon. According to Pastor Richard Kallee, the steps leading down to the bathhouse were called the “Bathhouse Steps” until the beginning of the 20th century. Locally, however, they became known as the “Bear Steps” because a breeding boar—called a Ber or Bär in the Swabian dialect—was once kept beside them. When the official name was established in 1986, the responsible authorities chose the popular name “Bärenstäffele,” which had become firmly established among Feuerbach residents, instead of the historical name.
