With its 1925 exhibition “New Objectivity,” the Kunsthalle Mannheim made history. Its director, Gustav F. Hartlaub, recognized at an early stage the realistic approach used by many artists of the Weimar Republic. He gave an entire artistic era its defining name: “New Objectivity.”
