1. Illinois Terminal System Morton Interurban Passenger Railway Marker

Inscription.
The Interurban Railway began operation in Morton in 1907. Its depot was built at the corner of First & Jefferson to carry passengers through Morton. Grant Conibear, a Tazewell County supervisor said, it helped "Lift Morton right out of the mud". The line ran to Peoria and ended at a depot on Hamilton Street near the old Peoria Jail. It also ran a scheduled route to Decatur with 10 stops both ways. The Interurban cost two cents per mile to ride. On June 11, 1955, passenger service was terminated and the Interurban made its last run.
