Inscription.

(English Translation)
“That is why I wished that Hermann would soon set out on his travels and see at least Strasbourg and Frankfurt, as well as friendly Mannheim, which is laid out evenly and pleasantly. For whoever has seen the great and orderly cities will not rest until he has also embellished his hometown, however small it may be.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, “Hermann and Dorothea,” 1797
This plaque was donated by Volksbank Mannheim for the museum’s opening in 1988.
