Macedon Hotel Fire July-12-1920. In this photo postcard image, a man examines the ruins of the Macedon Hotel after the disastrous 1910 fire. The hotel was on the north-east corner of Main Street and Erie Street N. Fires were a fact of life in the years before safe building codes and modern fire-fighting equipment. Courtesy Hod Conant.
The day after the Macedon Hotel fire, smoke still rose fromthe empty lot in the background, where the hotel stood. In the foreground is a sulky, horse-drawn vehicle for one person. Ironically, the buildings pictured here on the north side of Main Street were later destroyed by another fire, in 1921. Courtesy Hod Conant. Wayne Villa Motel Macedon, New York.
