1. Main Street & East College Drive Marker
One of the first businesses in Marshall was a general merchandise store started by Robert M. Addison in 1872 and located at Second (East College Drive) and Main Street (directly across the street from this marker). Over time, several of his family became partners as business was known as R.M. Addison & Son, Addison Brothers, and later Addison Hardware. The business continued for many years under a total of four generations of the Addison family.
"Dad's brother, Tom, his wife, Myra, and a partner had established a highly successful retail business in Marshall during the 1890's, with it being located on West Main Street in a three-story double building. It was also connected to another building on Third Street and was actually a large department store, for they sold just about everything except farm machinery."
