United States Seagoing Marines
Sea Duty was the First mission of the United States Marine Corps. Marines have always been seagoing. Their service aboard U.S. Naval ships of the fleet spans to the days of sharp shooting from a frigate's rigging. Marines, equipped with musket and a cutlass, first served aboard the USS Cabot in December 1775.

On May 1, 1998 Marine Detachment disestablishment ceremony was held aboard the USS Washington CNV-73 when 1st Lt Grant Goodrich the last Commanding Officer of a MarDet "stood down his unit".
