The Casino Theatre

The Casino Theatre has been an integral component of the Newport Casino since its opening in 1880.
The elaborate Casino Theatre was designed by Stanford White to be the centerpiece of Newport's artistic and social performances, the scene for dances, musical recitals, poetry readings, vaudeville acts, and theatrical productions. Its stage has been graced by such stars as Basil Rathbone, Olivia de Havilland, Vincent Price, Tallulah Bankhead, Orson Welles, and Helen Hayes.
Due to structural concerns, the theatre closed its doors in the 1980s and sat unused for nearly thirty years before its grant reopening in 2010, following a $5.2 million restoration. the restored theatre space features a gold-trimmed stenciled walls, graceful arched galleries, and state-of-the art technology.
Since its restoration the theatre has had a busy calendar of events. Salve Regina University utilizes the space for classes and performances through their Department of Performance Arts. Additionally, the Hall of Fame and the local arts community welcome guests in regularly for films, lectures, and concerts.
