Inscription.
Built in 1834, two years before Canton was incorporated, the Killis Walton House is among the oldest residential structures in the area. Originally sited on fourteen acres, the two-room dogtrot house was remodeled in the Greek Revival style ca. 1850. In 1834, Achilles "Killis" Walton and his wife Margaret conveyed a portion of their land to Madison County to establish a new county seat, where the courthouse built 1854-58 is located. The Killis Walton House is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
