Regarding 78A Willett Street. This 1878 building served as the stable and carriage house for the nearby residence of Isaac Waldman at 78 Willett Street. Waldman was a partner in the prominent Albany dry-goods firm Mann, Waldman & Co., founded in 1851 by Aaron Mann, Isaac Waldman, and Joseph Mann. The firm began in dry goods and millinery, later expanded into cloak manufacturing, and developed a wholesale branch.

The carriage house survives behind the principal residence and illustrates the service architecture that supported prosperous urban households in the late nineteenth century. Its relationship to 78 Willett Street is

especially notable because Waldman’s business partner Joseph Mann also had a nearby residence and associated carriage house, creating a small surviving cluster connected to the same Albany mercantile firm.
