The Cradle Tower

King Edward III built the Cradle Tower in the 1300s as his private palace entrance.
Battlements, arrow loops and two portcullises defended this important river gate from attack.
The King arrived by boat onto a wooden jetty. Inside, the tower’s vaulted ceiling is decorated with stone carvings.
