Inscription.
Kingston and Halstead & Scott agreed to the joint construction of this building with the Kingston office in the north section and the Halstead Bank in the south section with residential and office space on the upper levels. Halstead and Scott were private bankers with offices in Listowel, Durham, Clifford & Shelburne. William H.E. Kingston was son of Prof. William & Maria Kingston who started his law practice here in 1878. The Mount Forest Confederate operated in the north section from 1920 to 1985. The Royal Bank occupied the south section from 1916 to 1942, then the Bank of Montreal until 1969. The south section was then converted for a restaurant. In 1985, both sections were merged by owner Cynthia Beyer for Cynthia's (Ladies Wear) until 2005 then the business continued with Jenny Whetham until 2017.
