1. Layers of Defence Marker
Many extra layers of defence were added to the Tower over the centuries: high towers, a water-filled moat and thick walls.
You can see the White Tower at the heart of the fortress, built by William the Conqueror after taking the throne of England in 1066. The White Tower dominated London’s skyline for centuries.

2. Layers of Defence Marker
The marker is located along the Tower Wharf. From this vantage point, the White Tower is visible to the north and Traitors' Gate to the west.
