The Western Entrance

[English:]
The main Tower entrance was once much larger and better defended.

In the 1270s King Edward I created a fortified entrance with a series of gate towers surrounded by a water-filled moat.

One of these — called the Lion Tower — was demolished in the 1850s. Today, visitors enter through the remaining gate towers.
