Fort Scott in Bourbon County, Kansas — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
Cowtown?
Walk Fort Scott
Fort Scott was a dairy town and had 3 working dairies. Borden's canned and powdered milk was produced, boxed and shipped by rail to locations all over the United States. In the 1950's Batten Meadow Gold bought milk, bottled it, and delivered door to door. Banner did more. They bottled milk and made milk products such as cottage cheese, cheese, and ice cream. All the big dairies are gone and there are only about 3-4 small dairies left in Bourbon County.
