Old St. Augustine Power & Ice Building
Inscription.
Powering the history of St. Augustine
Originally built in 1905, the facility now home to St. Augustine Distillery first served as the city's power and ice plant. Ice was produced by chilling fresh water with compressed ammonia as a refrigerant, with each block taking several days to complete.
In 1926, Florida Power & Light Company purchased the property, and the building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
