2017 - Initial talks to establish "Hortensia" - The Hydrangea Project
2018 - Established "Hortensia" The Hydrangia Project
2019 - June 25th proclaimed Hydrangea Day in City of Fall River, the Hydrangea officially became the ornamental flower of Fall River through a unanimous vote of the City Council

One of the distinct attributes of Fall River is the authenticity of our community, our long rich history of Azorean Culture and our ties to Portugal. Hydrangea "Macrophylla", has horizontal blossoms and large globes of lowers in rich blue color are planted in containers throughout downtown Fall River matching those Hydrangea that are grown throughout the Azores.

Other species of Hydrangea are planted throughout the Waterfront Cultural District and neighboring areas.
