Inscription. Capt. Wylie sailed with the Merchant Marines and the British Merchant Navy for forty years prior to coming to Canada. He settled in Mount Forest in 1858 and is listed in the 1861 census as a Merchant. The Ontario Bank leased this building from 1877 to 1886. Ownership was transferred to Wylie's son-in-law, William Perry in 1887. He was a Barrister and the Town Clerk. The building stayed in the Perry name until 1941 then sold to Aaron Couch, Physician. Over the years it has been occupied by professional offices with apartments on the upper level.
