Inscription. The Post Office was constructed in 1912 by the Dominion Government on the site of John Corley's butcher shop. The building features a unique clock tower with a timepiece manufactured in Birmingham, England as well as arched Gothic windows and door openings and a classic wooden staircase inside.

The rear of the building served as an armoury during World War One, and during World War Two as a Red Cross Office where local women made items for the soldiers overseas. Later, it became the sorting area for rural mail carriers. The Post Office was the community's meeting place where people gathered at its entrance to share the daily news. The upstairs held the first public health offices, and the basement contained the town jail.

From 1974 to 1999, the building housed Mount Forest's police, municipal and council chambers.

Erected 2002 by Mount Forest Heritage Committee.
