1. Railroad House Marker
Inscription. This Railroad house, originally located next to the railroad tracks in Armour, was built in 1886 by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad to house the workers constructing the new rail line through Dakota Territory. Section house #33, similar in design to all RR section houses, then became residence of the section foreman. Identity of earlier section foreman is not known, but in 1921 Roy Brown became section foreman and he and his family lived in this house from then until 1986. At that time the Brown family donated the house to the Douglas County Historical Society. The Browns had purchased the house from the Milwaukee RR when the rail line was abandoned through Douglas County in 1972. The Railroad House was moved to its present location in 1987 and opened to the public as an addition to the Douglas County Museum Complex in 1988.
